We were supposed to move the boat to Chichester, this weekend. We had planned to take the boat over yesterday morning, but the weather looked really nasty and on Thursday we made the call not to go. A spring tide meant we’d have to leave for the boat at silly o’clock, and there were [...] Had a great day putting the sails up with Valerie. It was just a pity I’d only had 3-4 hours sleep and was completely knackered (baby duty). Anyhow, the sails are now up but not reefed. We had a bit of a job with the battens – seemed to involve unscrewing black plastic tensioners [...] The boat is now in the water. Sujee was a star and finished off the painting before motoring her round to her berth. Can’t wait to get down to see her finally in the water. Sujee’s gas expert friend has given me a quote for replacing the hoses and giving it a Corgi service. [...] I’m booked on the courses in April. Chris is coming along on the Radio course with me, so I’m especially looking forward to that. Neither she nor her husband have done the first aid course – I guess it’s far from mandatory. I like her attitude to it all; she’s so relaxed. Chris never [...] Just found Jill Schinas’s blog about Yacht Mollymawk. Seems like a fairly active site (how does she find time between all the sailing?). I’m very much into her book, Kids in the Cockpit, so it’s good to have all this additional material. Met up with Sujee yesterday to take a look at the result of all his hard work. He’s done a nice job – and that crack is certainly gone
I’ll not be able to go down to Hamble when they drop her into the water, and Sujee very kindly offered [...] I’ve been checking out the mooring lines (warps) for Mouflon — Valerie reckoned they might be a bit short. We took them home and stuck them in a washing machine, then I measured them on the lawn. We have a couple of lines which are 12m long, and another couple 9m. Then there [...] Sujee sent me an email to say he’s finished the antifoul – I’m really keen to see how he’s got on, especially regarding the crack. I’ve got some green gunk to clean off the deck – will be eager to get rid of that if I can this weekend. Bought some Staybright teak cleaner [...] Just realised today I totally forgot to get a radio license. According to this link, it means taking a course – which is pretty much what I’d been told at Hamble School of Yachting. From memory, the rule is one person on board needs the license or you can’t use the radio – so [...] Finally got a date arranged – Mouflon is due to go into the water on Thursday the 19th. Talked with HYS. They’ll motor her round to the berth: it’ll cost me £38 +VAT. Given this is their busiest time of year, it was a bit optimistic to hope they’d manage to drop her in on [...] |
