After much unsubtle hinting, I got a radio controlled yacht for my birthday. Unfortunately it didn’t fare so well. Back on dry land after five days on the boat. Another sunny Tuesday morning walking from Victoria Station. In most ways, the same as any Tueday. And yet, when I close my eyes, I feel the rock of the boat, see the deep blue sky. I can still picture the crashing waves on the bow, feel the salt air fill my lungs. You take a little bit of the sea back with you. Ramsgate – Chatham: 50.1 NM Dover – Ramsgate: 28.5 NM Eastbourne Sovereign Harbour – Dover: 47.4 NM Chichester – Eastbourne Sovereign Harbour: 68.4 NM Terry, Sean and I took Mouflon all the way from Chichester to Eastbourne Sovereign Harbour. Probably my longest voyage to date, though I’m sure it felt a whole lot longer for Sean who was out for the first time. I’m looking for a rigging expert to help me with get my reefing lines on. Not as simple as it might seem. Went down to the boat to fit freshly laundered sails with Mum and Nina. All did not go to plan. For our forthcoming trip, I’ve been looking for way to plot where we are in realtime. Magdalena is not coming along this time and she’d like to keep up to date with where we’ve got to. When you post to Twitter, it can automatically update your location. And there’s an iPhone app to send the info to t’Internet. Now I just need a device to plot those posts on a map and ideally show it online. Weather’s supposed to be nice today, so all the ropes and the jack stay lines are going into the washing machine. |
